Sport, in all its forms, is the great equalizer, offering a commonality of purpose and drive for a large segment of the population.From a player development perspective, little can occur in sport without a coach. Certainly, we all know one, or many, coaches. They come from the ranks of our family and friends.Sport organizations provide coaches with both technical (specific sport) as well as theory (sport in general) courses of training. From a practical perspective, many of these courses are covered over 4 to 8 hours on a weekend. As a result, many topics can only receive minimal course attention in any one year.This book is not intended as a definitive authority on any aspect of coaching in any particular sport. It is not sport-specific, and will therefore appeal across a broad sport spectrum. It is based upon Dave Randell’s almost 30 years of volunteering within minor sports, at the recreational and elite minor levels, as a coach (soccer, hockey, baseball) and as an administrator (treasurer, director), on local, provincial and national levels.
