Grease [Vinyl]

This is the 1972 Original Broadway Cast Album that came before Grease The Movie. It is a nostalgic romp bringing back the teen-age life style of the 1950s. The boys wear hair swept back into elaborate greasy coifs called ducktails. They sport motocycle jackets, pegged pants, turned up shirt collars and t-shirts with cigarette packs rolled up in the sleeves. The girls wear boys' windbreakers with their names sewn on. They pierce their ears, wear pedal pushers, bobby socks, long felt skirts and crinolines. The Broadway musical sounds different from the later movie version. It is a little more harsh and tough. It includes a few songs not included in the cleaned up movie version. Of course different stars: Adrienne Barbeau as Rizzo, Carole Demas as Sandy and Barry Bostwick as Danny. As the play begins Danny, a member of the Burger Palace Boys (a greaser gang) at mythical Rydell High spots Sandy, a sweet innocent who has just transferred from the cloistered confines of Immaculata High. Grease parodies the 50s, yet it is ageless.
