This is a ‘Brick Screen’ Laquage Paravent Room Divider, initially designed by Eileen Gray in France ca. 1922-1923. This example dates to the 1980s and is seemingly unsigned, though it may have been produced by Ecart International. The design has wooden articulated “bricks” that are staggered along vertical poles. Each brick has a lacquered mahogany facade on both sides. When folded up, the piece is easy to tuck away. Gray designed hundreds of items during her long career, but she apparently adored this design so much that she kept a pair of lacquered brick screens for her own apartment on Rue Bonaparte.

This screen measures 1.5 inches deep, 70 inches high, and 59 inches wide when extended. There are several white marks on the piece, and there are also several scratches on the surface. There is one larger blemish that we have photographed. Overall, this piece is in good condition. Please see photos.
