The binding is mounted directly under the boot to maximize energy transfer to the ski for smaller athletes and elevated brakes are tucked in close to the heel, which makes it easier to get the skis on edge. A race pedal allows the boot sole to sit directly on the AFD plate for the most direct energy transmission. Steel and fiberglass PA materials keep things study but not overbearing.
