...And Bobby Makes Ten is a biography of a guy who was born in a small farmhouse in Colorado and as you have guessed, is the tenth child, of railroad man Earl Thomas Abercrombie, and his strong, intelligent, devoted wife Golden Ruby (Moore) Abercrombie. This guy was given the name Robert, possibly named after maternal grandfather Robert Moore. The book flows through Robert’s life, and adds a few lines about the Abercrombies who came to South Carolina from Scotland in the1760’s, one particular lineage of the Abercrombies. Robert’s story is perhaps unusual, maybe interesting, possibly over-detailed, but it is pure American. The guy grew up in a farm house without running water or electricity or sewage but he didn’t know of any disadvantage, persecution, unfairness, discrimination or fear. Well, maybe at times he thought his older siblings were a little inequitable, but these feelings were strongly overbalanced by the love existing for all within the familyGrowing up, he enjoyed life on the small farm, all his surroundings and his responsible parents. It was pretty clear to him early-on that not much would be handed him, and he had better pay attention, obey the rules and pretty much make his own way through life. This is the story of how Robert grew up in and out of the farm in Jefferson County, Colorado, and made a somewhat interesting life for himself and his family. The story goes along with Robert through nine States, three foreign countries land one principal employer. The reader will get to know his lifetime friend, wife, lover and chief cook and bottle washer of 67 years, Bonny, his four strong children, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. You can travel through 48 of the U. S. fifty States, and about 15 foreign countries with Bonny and Robert. There were some interesting experience along the way and the reader might relate to how Bob learned many things the hard way. Good Reading!! Read more
