Origins & Genetics

Alien bettas are hybrids, typically bred from wild species like:

  • Betta smaragdina
  • Betta stiktos
  • Betta mahachaiensis

They do not exist in the wild and were created through selective breeding to enhance their metallic sheen and vibrant colors

Appearance

  • Base Color: Usually dark black or brown.
  • Scales: Metallic and iridescent, shimmering in blues, greens, coppers, and silvers.
  • Fins: Males have more dramatic, flowing fins with stripes and spots.
  • Body Shape: Sleek with rounded heads and upturned mouths.

Types include:

  • Green Alien Betta
  • Blue Alien Betta
  • Copper Alien Betta
  • Plakat Alien Betta (short-finned variety)

Size & Lifespan

  • Size: 2–3 inches (5–7.5 cm)
